Morning Mango Smoothie

Mornings can be hectic. Even though we are in summer now and don’t have to rush out the door at dark-o’clock for school, there are still things that need to be done. The dog needs to go out, dishwasher needs to be emptied, 3 little munchkins need to be fed, and we need to get ready for the day whether we are running errands or the kids are off to dance camp. Husband, on the other hand, is still off to work every morning. There is no “summer break” in adulthood.

Since he often needs to be out of the door in a hurry for pre-work meetings and errands, Husband needs his breakfast on the go. I, on the other hand, need to make sure whatever I send with him is mess free and will keep him fueled for the next several hours. While grabbing a few Monday Morning Muffins is a good option, I notice that Husband has more energy and mental clarity when he has lots of fruits and greens in the morning.

Enter the Morning Mango Smoothie!

Jam-packed with energy boosting carbohydrates, healthy fats, and a balance of plant protein, this smoothie keeps Husband going all morning long. No post Pop Tart sugar crash here! He is not a coffee drinker, so whatever he eats can’t leave him with a dip in energy later on.

We’ve talked about the wonders of the humble hemp seed, the antioxidant power of spirulena, and the iron boosting qualities of spinach before, so let’s jump straight to the recipe and get you on your way to a great morning!

Morning Mango Smoothie


  • 1 large mango, peeled and de-pitted
  • 2 frozen bananas, sliced
  • 1/4-1/2 avocado, peeled
  • ½ tsp Spirulina Powder
  • 2 TBS Hemp Hearts
  • Juice of ½ lime
  • 3 cups greens (spinach or baby kale work best here)
  • 5 cups water



  1. Place all ingredients in the blender in the order listed (or backward if using a bullet style blender). You want the greens and liquid right next to the blade.
  2. Blend until smooth. Serves 1 large 32 oz smoothie.
