We all know it. The chocolate hazelnut spread that has become a cult favorite across the world. It’s sweet, creamy, contains antioxidant rich cocoa, and skin loving vitamin E from hazelnut. It’s been advertised as having “simple, quality ingredients” and a great way to start your day. It’s got to be healthy, right? Continue reading “Homemade Healthy Chocolate Hazelnut Spread”
Most days I go into the kitchen armed with my ingredients and plan of attack, and everything turns out beautifully. Then there are other times that the ideas in my head don’t seem to work out and I am forced to make things up as I go. Throwing food away is terrible for my budget, so it is a last resort. Thankfully we have a dog who is always willing to clean up my mistakes. Continue reading “Healthy Carrot Cake Bites”

If you’ve spent any length of time on Instagram, you’ve heard of Earthy Andy. She lives in Hawaii with her husband and 2 adorable kids and they eat a high-raw, plant-based diet (meaning LOTS of fresh, raw fruits and veggies). She has healed herself and her children from severe digestive issues, eczema, and asthma using whole plant foods. Much to the chagrin of my dentist, I have always loved caramel. It’s sugary sweetness and soft sticky texture makes everything seem right with the world. Until it pulls out a filling (or causes you to need one).

Rich, chocolatey, brownies. Who doesn’t love them? They are the quintessential American dessert. Moms make them for their kids after school, they are served with thick icing and sprinkles at birthday parties, and they are presented à la mode at practically every restaurant across the US. However, no matter which way you slice it, they are always baked with eggs, butter, and copious amounts of refined sugar. Even “veganized” versions still require heavily processed flour and many times oil to replace the eggs and butter. And we all know how I feel about baking. So how is one living a whole foods, plant-based lifestyle supposed to get that occasional brownie fix?

A couple of weeks ago, I had a real craving for ice cream. I had been out and about with my family for the afternoon and just felt the need for something sweet to complete my day. I dashed into the market and grabbed 2 cartons of coconut milk ice cream. It wasn’t until I got back into the car that I realized those TINY little cartons were $5 a piece! What?! Now financially committed to my craving, we drove home and dished out the ice cream. While it was as hard as a rock, it still tasted lovely and quelled my sweet tooth. I felt satisfied.
